Soda Ash

CAS No. 497-19-8

Soda ash is one of the largest and most widely used basic inorganic chemical raw materials in the world. Soda ash is a white odorless powder or particle at room temperature, easily soluble in water, and the aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. Industrial soda ash is mainly divided into two categories: heavy soda ash (Soda Ash Dense) and light soda ash (Soda Ash Light), which are widely used in fields such as flat glass, daily glass, detergents, metallurgy, papermaking, and water treatment.

Technical Parameter Dense Grade (Typical) Light Grade (Typical) Test Standard
Na2CO3 Assay ≥ 92% ≥ 92% ISO 740 / GB/T 210

The uses of soda ash in the industry

Glass industry

Glass industry

Soda ash acts as a fluxing agent that can significantly lower the melting point of quartz sand, speed up the melting process, and save fuel. It's an essential core material for making flat glass, photovoltaic glass, everyday glass, and bottle glass.

Chemical industry

Soda ash is one of the most basic inorganic raw materials in the chemical industry and is widely used to produce important chemical products like sodium silicate (water glass), sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), dichromate, sodium nitrate, trisodium phosphate, borax, and more.

Metallurgy industry

Metallurgy industry

Soda ash is mainly used in metallurgy as a smelting flux, a flotation agent for ore dressing, and a desulfurizer in steelmaking. It's also used in producing alumina and extracting lithium from spodumene, providing the key raw material lithium carbonate for making lithium batteries.

Food processing industry

Soda ash (baking soda) is used as a dough additive. It can neutralize the acids produced during fermentation and increase the dough's strength. It's also used as a buffer and acidity regulator in the production of fermented seasonings like MSG and soy sauce.

Detergents and cleaning products industry

Soda ash has the ability to remove dirt, emulsify, and soften hard water. It's an important additive in detergents like laundry powder, liquid soap, and dishwashing liquid, and it's also often used for cleaning industrial pipes and heavy grease in the kitchen.
